A conversation with a stranger. The impact of law, not just on society, but on emotions and opportunity. The chemistry of a hockey team as they communicate and their paths overlap on the ice. These are things many people would miss in the rush of turning from one responsibility to the next. Yet the same cannot be said for Miss Emily Einhorn, whose focus on connection and purpose fuels her desire to learn every day.
Emily was born and raised in South Florida, with a bright mind and huge dreams. As a senior at the College Academy at Broward College (a program designed for high school juniors and seniors to earn an associate’s degree while completing high school), Miss Einhorn gave The Observer an exclusive interview that offers a glimpse into how she balances schoolwork, passions, and extracurriculars, which are all driven by her clear vision: practicing law in a small yet impactful office where the change she creates ripples through communities.
As a young girl, Emily decided she wanted to be a lawyer to avoid having to study too much math. However, as she matured and learned more about the profession, she fell in love with it. In everything Emily does (whether it’s watching a hockey game, helping a fellow classmate, or tutoring a young child) she finds emotion and meaning. The human connection and compassion she discovers in moments most people overlook are what keeps her motivation burning daily and why she works so hard.
As her love for law has evolved, she has taken on several internships. Most notably, she assisted Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, where she interacted with staff and addressed her community’s needs from a political perspective. She admits that her favorite part was seeing the human side of politics rather than the cold debating and polarization that often dominate it. Her values for the workplace blossomed during this internship, helping her realize that a comfortable, respectful, and amiable environment inspires people to work to the best of their abilities. This is one of the many reasons Emily is so beloved at Broward College; her caring personality and intelligence merge to create a passionate, perceptive individual with clear values and goals.
Her path has been forever shaped by Ethics Professor Joshua Kimber at Broward College. Miss Einhorn shares that Professor Kimber made the class material accessible and that his passion for philosophy inspired her to major in that field before attending law school. Another professor who has profoundly inspired Emily is College Academy’s Dr. O’Neill. “Dr. O’Neill is my biggest inspiration,” Emily stated. “He’s so smart, so well-read, and so well-versed in the humanities. I
aspire to be as intelligent and just as kind.” Ms. Einhorn expressed deep gratitude for his classes, explaining that she feels fortunate to have learned from someone whose brilliance is matched fully by his compassion. Her words emphasized that Professor O’Neill is a true role model for every student who passes through the College Academy.
Similarly, Emily channels her academic passion into tutoring children of all ages. She particularly enjoys the challenge of connecting with each student and tailoring her sessions to fit their learning style. Her best advice for struggling students is to figure out what works for them, since everyone absorbs knowledge differently. Some may need extra assistance from teachers, others might benefit from visuals like diagrams or videos, and some may prefer to teach themselves. She encourages all students to experiment with different learning techniques and to give themselves permission to find what truly helps them grow.
Law is just one aspect of Emily’s many passions. On top of her academics, tutoring job, and internships, Miss Einhorn serves as secretary for the National Honor Society and president of three clubs: Book Club, Creative Writing Club, and Political History Debating Club. She has always found comfort in books and reading: “[It’s] always been there for me,” she shared. Ms. Einhorn also makes it a point to read more than she uses her phone, having realized that the emotions a book elicits are far more authentic than what short-form content offers, and that she learns infinitely more from pages of prose. Her favorite books include The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Alchemist, and A Thousand Splendid Suns.
Emily envisions her future as a harmonious blend of office work, human connection, and politics, which unfold in a small practice that produces big results. But what makes her story remarkable isn’t just her ambition; it’s the sincerity behind it. Emily’s pursuit of law isn’t about power or prestige, but about people. It’s about listening to voices that often go unheard and creating ripples of kindness that turn into waves of change.
She carries herself with quiet strength, leading not by command but by compassion. In every space she enters, Emily leaves it brighter, more thoughtful, and more human. The world needs lawyers who see beyond each case into each story, and Emily Einhorn is already becoming one of them.
