Members of Runner’s Club discuss their goals, on campus and off campus activities and what it’s like to be part of the running community. Their meetings are a mix of motivation, teamwork and planning for what’s ahead.

Runner’s Club is a place for all people who want to be physically healthy and meet others with that same goal. It is also a community of like-minded people who want to either get better at running or be consistent. “The purpose of Runner’s Club is to have a community of people who want to stay active and just be consistent and meet people who have the same goal and who were runners formerly to continue doing so in college,” said Daylean Lainez, the president of Runner’s Club. The club aims to complete a 5k, by gradually building up from one mile to three miles by July, just before the fall term begins.

The Runner’s Club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2 p.m. and on Friday at 10 a.m. They run near the Central Campus before the intersection where the garage is near building 11.

They also run occasionally at parks. The workouts the club does consist of stretching before the workout and then running at their own pace. “We run; we stretch. I want to incorporate a sprinting progression one of the days of the week so we can maintain the speed and pace,” said Lainez.

As they start their goal of completing a 5k, the club plans to participate in the 37th Annual Memorial Day classic United States of America 5k on May 26. This would be their first event outside of school.

At the Runner’s Club, athletes of all levels are welcome to join. You can even join if you’ve never ran before. Officers are very adamant about making sure all runners are safe and able to do the workout. “I do like that they always wait for people and everything like that,” said Shania Gedeon, a club member.

Officers also give tips to new runners on how to stay hydrated and how the kind of clothes you wear can affect your performance. “They just give general advice on attire or how to stay hydrated,” said Ashton Franer, another club member.

According to members of the Running Club, the club is not like other fitness groups on campus. It’s full of qualities and opportunity. “I think it’s just how active it is. There’s a lot of new people coming in and the club is almost doing something twice a week and even off campus activities. People are coming, showing up and it just feels like a community,” said Phillip Mauvais, Club Officer. So, if you want to stay active, and be part of a community, Runner’s Club might be the club for you.
