On October 29th, students gathered on Broward College’s Central Campus to participate in an alluring murder mystery party. Students used their critical thinking skills to figure out what happened and why.
The Secrets and Suspects event turned out to be a thrilling success, where students had the chance to try something new and interesting, allowing students to socialize with others. “The Murder Mystery Party is held to provide students with a creative and interactive way to connect. It combines teamwork, problem-solving, and fun storytelling in a relaxed setting. This event demonstrates how Student Life can make learning and leadership enjoyable,” said Sabrina Bell, coordinator of Student Life. More than 150 people attended the Murder Mystery Party, creating a lively blend of returning students, newcomers, as well as Campus Activity Board and Student Life leaders who helped facilitate the evening’s intrigue.
Students enjoyed that they were able to take part in a mentally challenging and suspenseful activity. “I like that I get to sit down and solve a murder mystery,” said Jasmine Joseus, a biology major here at Broward College. Others who were part of the event appreciated the positive energy that the event gave. “The event is lively, I’ve got some food, and I’m sharing it with my friends. It’s pretty alright so far,” said Garry Holmes, a computer science major at Broward College. The event not only sparked critical thinking and camaraderie; it left students eager for more immersive experiences that combine fun with intellectual endeavors.
Many of those who attended the event expressed enjoyment of the food, participating in games, and meeting new people. “I like the decorations, the games, there are a lot of people, I also like the food, and it’s a good place to make new friends,” said Jaun Torres, a cybersecurity major. Students were reminded of why they attend student life events at Broward College, embracing the fellowship that each event brings.
Students are taking note of the differences between inside and outside events on Central campus. “A similarity for all the student life events; they usually plan ahead, so when they know it’s a rainy or cloudy weather day, they’ll change the event from outside to inside. I feel like the inside vibe always gives super homey, good comfy vibes, then outside you’re like woo woo woo, like it’s super fun and a lot going on,” said Diana Jeudi. Whether cozy and intimate or loud and lively, the shifting settings continue to shape how students connect, celebrate, and make memories across campus.
The Secrets and Suspects murder mystery party was a one-of-a-kind event that encouraged students to step back and unite with their peers, while putting teamwork and problem-solving to the test to solve an enthralling murder mystery. It’s events like these that students will always want to come to and remember forever.
