Halloween had an early start on Broward College’s Central Campus; and a spooky celebration took place to welcome in the new fall season. On October 22nd, Students came together on Broward College’s Central Campus for a spooktacular celebration, indulging in a pie-eating contest, playing games, and crafting personalized tote bags with Halloween-themed and Broward College themed patches.

The Spooky Sack event was more than just a fleeting moment; it was an unforgettable experience. Like other events, students were able to spend time with their friends, but this time Student Life shared the experience of some of fall’s greatest activities. Sabrina Bell, the coordinator of student life, said, “The Spooky Sack event was held to celebrate the Halloween season and provide students with a fun, engaging way to connect with their campus community.” She also said, “The goal of Spooky Sack is to create a festive, inclusive, and interactive space where students can enjoy seasonal activities while connecting with their peers and Student Life staff. Spooky Sack is more than just a Halloween celebration; it’s a way to strengthen campus connections and spread positive energy.” As students passed by to create their own spooky sacks, this fall event proved to be extremely successful and a recurring favorite.

For some students, being able to participate in the event was the reason they came by. “I came to the event today because I just love what student life does. They have these events throughout the week, and it just helps with student engagement. There are so many different and fun activities you can do. Like today, we’re making patches for our bags. So, it’s just good for the community, and I love coming out to them.” Said Phillip Mauvais, a graphic design major. With hands busy and spirits high, events like these continue to stitch together the vibrant tapestry of Student Life at Broward College.

Students expressed great interest that they were able to create something new that had practical use. “I liked that I got to decorate a bag; I think it’s cute. I got the pink pouch, and I was thinking of using it as a pencil case.” said Alina Paulose. Others who came enjoyed the feeling of belonging that the event brought. “I like the music, the environment, and the welcoming attitude of everybody here,” said Ella Espana, a college academy student. It’s moments like this that remind everyone that campus life isn’t just about academics; it’s about building a community that feels like home.

Many who came also liked the food, the fact that the event gives them an outlet to get involved, and how other Student Life events bring the same feeling of community. “I enjoy all of the school events, because it gives us something to do after class, and between classes instead of going to class right away,” said Zamaya Washington, a forensic science major.

The Spooky Sack event was a lively moment that brought people together. It wasn’t just a Halloween celebration; it was an exhilarating experience that made everyone feel welcomed and a part of a college community. This was just one of the many events that student life holds on campus; there are so many more events to come.
